Y’all — December was not a kind book month for me. I only made it through 3 books and I was on the major stuggle bus to finish 2 of them! Good news though… January is here and it’s time to start fresh! I’ve updated my Goodreads Reading Challenge to 35 book this year. Here’s to good books! But first, my last book review of 2022!

How the Grump Saved Christmas
This book by Claire Kingsley is your quintessential Christmas book. It followed Elias Stoneheart, whose name describes him well. The company he works for is trying to buy a failing farm land to build a new coportate office and the only way to get the promotion is to ensure the he buys the land. The only problem? The land is owned by his high school girlfriend’s family, and that relationship didn’t end well. Set on his goal though, he goes out to convince Isabelle to sell the farm but ends up getting far more than money can buy.
How the Grump Saved Christmas should be a Hallmark movie. It was a quick, easy, holiday book. I read most of it in the airport and it put me in the holiday spirit. Overall, would definitely recommend!
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.
Edge of Dusk
Colleen Coble returns to Rock Harbour in the first book of her new series following the main character Annie Pederson. Annie is a law enforcement ranger looking into the recent murders haunting the town. Meanwhile, her former boyfriend returns after 9 years away and she realizes that maybe they still have some love left for each other. Annie’s sister was kidnapped in front of her when she was a little girl and when she’s not solving the town’s murders or rekindling old love, she is looking into what might have happened to her sister.
I’ve loved Colleen Coble since I started reading in high school, but this book was not her best. It started off alright, but the middle just dragged on and I struggled to get through it. I mostly skimmed the middle of the book. The ending picked up, but it was a pretty expected ending for a Colleen Coble book. The next book in the series comes out next week so hopefully the library gets a few copies!
I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars.
Judas 62
Judas 62 is the second book in Box 88 series by Charles Cumming. The series follows Lachlan Kite, an agent in the covert Anglo-American intelligence agency. Kite ends up on the JUDAS List, a list of Russian enemies targeted for assassination. The name on the list is actually an alias from one of Kite’s first assignments right out of college. The book tells the story of Kite’s assignment in Russia and details how and why he became an enemy then moves into the current day and how Kite will escape an assassintation attempt.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first Box 88 book. It felt like I was reading a James Bond movie and kept me captivated the whole time. I anxiously awaited the release of this book, but I just couldn’t get through this book and I was so disappointed. The book was unnecessarily long and very slow. I trekked through and eventually finished because I had already put so much time into it, but it’ll be a while before I pick up another Charles Cumming book.
I gave this book 2 out of 5 stars.
